The Center for Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Diagnosis and Treatment at Ningbo Medical Center Lihuili Hospital (The Affiliated Lihuili Hospital of Ningbo University), comprising of four wards including Eastern Hospital Zone (Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery 1, 2 and 3) and Xingning Hospital Zone (Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery 4), with nearly 200 beds available and more than 110 medical staff, is a provincial and municipal key discipline, a medical and health branded discipline of Ningbo, the only institution in Eastern Zhejiang qualified for citizen organ donation and post-death living donor liver transplantation as approved by the National Health Commission, and the surgery master and doctor base of Ningbo Organ Transplantation Research Center and Ningbo University accredited with the “Key Organ Transplant Lab”.

The Center for Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Diagnosis and Treatment is well-staffed with a reasonable talent pool, most are holding master’s and doctoral degrees, some second-level post experts are entitled to special allowances granted from the State Council, some are famous doctors of Ningbo, some are provincial health high-level talents, provincial medical newcomers, and some are leading and top-notch talents of Ningbo. Owing to the diligent work in the past years, the Center for Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Diagnosis and Treatment has yielded satisfactory results and shapes its own attributes with respect to surgical treatment of complex and difficult hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors, liver transplantation and laparoscopic minimally invasive techniques. In the past three years, more than 2,000 cases of hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumor operations have been performed, and the curative effect is good. In the past decade, more than 330 cases of liver transplantation have been performed, including 42 cases of split liver transplantation and 14 cases of adult living donor liver transplantation, with the quality levels of transplantation ranked among the top across the nation, and many patients survive for a long time after operation. Laparoscopic minimally invasive technology is well-known in and out of the province, and almost all abdominal surgical operations can be performed under laparoscopy. The team members are keep moving on and have developed many innovative techniques such as complex and difficult laparoscopic resection of hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors, total hilar resection for hilar cholangiocarcinoma, surgical treatment for middle and advanced liver cancer with portal vein tumor thrombus, and establish the MDT diagnosis and treatment system in Ningbo, with over 1,500 patients diagnosed and treated so far, which drastically improves the diagnosis and treatment levels of complex and difficult hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases.
